Update on Year 11 and 13 Exam Grades

Dear Parent / Carer

I write hoping that you and your family are well and that your child is continuing to look forward to the next stages in their education from September 2020.

I would like to update you on progress towards the ‘exceptional arrangements for awarding qualifications’ system outlined by Ofqual that applies to all students in Years 11 and 13 and to remind you of some key guidance and direction that our school and staff must adhere to.  All decisions and guidance from Ofqual can be found by following the link https://www.gov.uk/government/news/exceptional-arrangements-for-awarding-qualifications-this-summer

Ofqual provided all schools with the processes we needed to follow in order to award the grades we believe each student would achieve in each of their subjects.  We have been asked to send this to exam boards as a grade, and a rank order for each subject which means ordering students for each subject from highest to lowest expected grade outcome.

Teachers, subject leaders and senior leaders have been using a variety of information suggested by Ofqual to decide on the grades to send to Ofqual and these have been signed off by me as Executive Head Teacher.  I believe that our procedures have been robust and fair in this respect.

Ofqual and exam boards will now use the information we have sent and compare it to all other schools across the country.  They will make decisions about the final grades that will be awarded to your child for each subject.

Please note that the final grades awarded by exam boards and Ofqual may not be the same as the grades we have submitted, and we have no control over this.

Please also note that we are unable to inform you of the grades we submitted as this would be deemed as potential malpractice by Ofqual.

We are considering how students will receive their exam outcomes on Thursday 13th August for Year 13 and Thursday 20th August for Year 11.  We would love to see students on these days but will need to follow Government guidance closer to the time, especially with regards to social distancing and gatherings.  I will write again to you closer to the time to inform you and your child how we will enable the collection of results.

I hope the information above continues to clarify the process that is being undertaken at school and national level to award grades this year.  If you require any further information or support, please contact Mrs Kowalczyk for year 11 students or Mrs Osman for year 13 students, who will be happy to help.

Yours faithfully

Jenni Tyler-Maher

Executive Head Teacher
