Our vision is To provide an excellent education for all our students

Our mission statement is Commitment, Pride, Success

Commitment to learning; Pride in ourselves and our community; Success in all we do.

Our students are at the heart of what we do. From the moment you first visit our school, we will support the whole child, recognising their potential, so that they can flourish and continue to value learning.

We know that all students and parents have high aspirations. It is our job to channel this through academic rigour and ambition.

An essential element of this is building resilience in our students through:

  • Fostering a sense of what is worthwhile
  • Building trusting relationships
  • Promoting self-esteem
  • Encouraging autonomy
  • Academic risk-taking

Commitment

All students are set challenging individual targets based on prior learning. They and their teachers track progress regularly. Quality assessments inform vibrant teaching and learning. The SEN department, the Head of Year and pastoral team provide bespoke support for students to reach their potential.

The curriculum is broad and balanced. In Years 7-9 students study English, Maths, Science, Art, Design & Technology, Drama, Geography, History, Computer Science, French, Music, PE and Religious Studies.

In Years 10-11, students study the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, PE and Religious Studies. Students also choose option subjects, which give balance to the curriculum and allows them to develop their interests and attitudes.

Our Sixth Form is well integrated into the life of the school, with a wide range of courses available. From September 2020 we also launched a new partnership with Welling United FC to provide a football academy as part of our 6th form offer. Students can also access a wider curriculum, such as volunteering, mentoring and leadership experiences. They are supported to aspire to university and other appropriate career pathways.

Pride

Learning beyond the classroom recognises our students’ unique talents and fosters self-belief:

  • Extensive individual music tuition
  • Frequent musical and dramatic performances
  • Duke of Edinburgh and other leadership programmes
  • Competitive and non-competitive sport is promoted through our extra-curricular programmes. Students take part in the annual TKAT (Academy Trust) Games.
  • Educational trips and visits to a range of overseas and UK venues, for example a yr 7 PGL trip to the Isle of Wight, Ski trip to Andorra and a trip to the French battlefields.
  • Jack Petchey Speak out Challenge develops the skills and confidence to speak in public.

Success

We all thrive on praise and as such we have a multitude of ways to celebrate the success of our students. Opportunities for parents/carers to be part of their child’s achievements include Prize Giving, contact with home and parent consultation evenings. Celebration assemblies are integral to a community of respect and recognition.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school to experience its unique atmosphere.
