The Boccia Boy's are off to Sheffield

And they’re off!

The Cleeve Park School Boccia Team aka ‘The Boccia Boys’ are off to Sheffield to compete in the Lord Taverners National School Boccia Finals!

Jack Tatton, Harry Crouch, Asa Hems and George Miller have competed in several regional competitions over the last 4 months, culminating in a gold medal performance on March 15th that secured their place in the National Finals on May 3rd at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. They are accompanied by teacher and team coach Mr Leyton Thompson and TA Mrs Nicola Beavan.

Boccia Boys off to Sheffield

Boccia is a disability sport where players aim to propel balls close to a target ball. Two sides compete as individuals, pairs or as a team of three over a set number of ends – similar to Boules or Lawn Bowls. Cleeve Park has a strong tradition of success in physical disability sports but this is the first time our Boccia team have made it to the National Finals.

The Boccia Team recently had a boost after local businesswoman Shobie Lee, founder of Partners Hair & Beauty in Sidcup, chose them to be the recipient of her fundraising efforts with a donation of £900 that will help cover the cost of the boys specialist accommodation whilst away and purchase vital equipment for the team in the future. The boys were invited as special guests to the salon re-launch on April 1st and played a game of Boccia on the high-street with Shobie and her staff!

We wish them the best of luck in the finals but are incredibly proud of the effort the boys have put in to reaching this event.
