Geography is a popular option choice at KS4 and KS5 and results are successful and improving. We are looking for someone who can both teach good or better lessons and show that they have the ability to lead and manage others. The appointed candidate will have excellent subject knowledge and the commitment to raise the achievements of students at all levels. The successful candidate will be working alongside the collaborative and supportive Humanities Faculty which comprises of Geography, History, Religious Studies and Psychology.

JOB PURPOSE

  • To be an active member of the Faculty Management team, supporting the Head of Faculty in its’ development.
  • To effectively lead, manage and develop the Department.
  • To ensure the standards of teaching achieves the school target of 85% good or better teaching.
  • To ensure progress and attainment of students meet the school targets.

Carry out all duties and responsibilities in accordance with School policies and procedures and statutory requirements.

  • Ensure the smooth running of the Department.
  • Ensure the school’s aims, objectives and vision are met, formulating a clear strategy for the continued development of the Department
  • Promote collaboration and the sharing of good practice within the Department and across the wider curriculum.
  • To hold and attend relevant meetings for the Department.
  • To manage and contribute to the consistent implementation of policies and procedures within the Department and across the whole school.
  • To effectively line manage and appraise staff as appropriate.
  • To be responsible for the effective deployment, professional development, induction and well-being of all staff working within the Department.

Areas of Accountability

  • Through effective Teaching and Learning students achieve the best possible outcomes, ensuring their progress and attainment reaches or exceeds expected levels.
  • To ensure the Department budgets and resources are effectively managed.

Professional development

  • Periodically review the methods of teaching and learning within the Department, ensuring appropriate CPD is undertaken where necessary.
  • Participate in arrangements for further training and professional development including those aimed at meeting the need identified in performance objectives or in performance statements for the Department.

Discipline, health and safety

  • To work within school policies and procedures to maintain good behaviour and discipline amongst students, ensuring their health and safety both within the classroom, school premises and where they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere.
  • To work in accordance with the guidelines set out in the school Health and safety policy.

Examinations

  • Participate in arrangements for preparing students for external/internal examinations, in assessing students for the purpose of such examinations.

General Responsibilities

  • Promote the school’s values and ethos in accordance with the School’s Professional Code.
  • Work actively to develop professional expertise by participating in ongoing professional development.
  • Contribute to the professional development of colleagues.

Qualification Criteria

  • Qualified to degree level and above
  • Qualified to teach in the UK (QTS or working towards)
  • Right to work in the UK

Experience and Specialist Knowledge

  • Knowledge of up to date curriculum developments
  • Knowledge of assessment at all key stages and robust levelling of student’s work
  • Experience teaching 11-18
  • A positive proven track record of student progress, performance and attainment
  • Evidence of continually improving the teaching and learning in your subject area
  • Evidence of effective use of assessment for learning
  • Evidence of outstanding classroom practice which leads to learning for every student
  • Evidence of effective planning, teaching and classroom management
  • Ability to teach to A* GCSE standard
